Dr. Candace HunterCandace S. Hunter, Psy.D.

Dr. Candace Hunter is a postdoctoral fellow with a specialization in adult and geriatric neuropsychology.  She graduated with honors from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a B.S. in psychology.  She received her M.A. and Psy.D. in clinical psychology from the Georgia School of Professional Psychology in Atlanta.  Her doctoral training included placements at local facilities such as the Shepherd Center, Emory Center for Rehabilitation Medicine, and the Atlanta Veterans Administration Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic.  She subsequently completed a specialty internship in neuropsychology at Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, Pennsylvania that was accredited by the American Psychological Association.

Dr. Hunter’s clinical focus involves the assessment of memory disorders and dementia (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease), as well as other neurological diseases and medical conditions that can affect cognitive functioning including brain tumors, stroke, and vascular disease.  In addition, Dr. Hunter conducts screening assessments for older individuals who are concerned about cognitive changes as they age and baseline evaluations for individuals with a strong family history of dementia.  She also assists medical and mental health professionals with diagnostic clarification of conditions that interfere with cognitive functioning.

Dr. Hunter provides individual therapy to adult and geriatric populations dealing with adjustment issues; individuals coping with chronic medical conditions or unexpected illness; family caregivers experiencing stress; and individuals dealing with depression, grief, or loss.
