Mary Helen Hunt, Ph.D.
Mary Helen Hunt is a licensed psychologist and nationally certified school psychologist with school-based and clinical experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. She completed a B.A. in Psychology at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. She obtained her M.Ed., Ed.S. and Ph.D. degrees in School Psychology from Georgia State University.
Dr. Hunt specializes in the assessment of learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, and ADHD. Dr. Hunt sees children individually for therapy for managing anxiety, social skills training, self-esteem, grief/loss, and bullying prevention. Her goal in working with children and collaborating with their parents is to improve coping skills, promote pro-social behavior, build resilience, normalize difficult feelings and experiences, and to prevent the development of more serious problems. Dr. Hunt is a certified yoga instructor and sometimes uses this in her work with children.
With over 15 years of experience in school settings, Dr. Hunt understands the value of a collaborative relationship between mental health professionals, parents, and schools in promoting student success. She currently practices in school settings as well as in private practice. She has experience in school intervention programs such as the Student Support Team, RTI (response to intervention) process, early intervention services, eligibility for Special Education and the IEP process. She provides training and presentations for educators and parents on topics such as bullying prevention and social skills instruction. Dr. Hunt is affiliated with the Center for School Safety, School Climate, and Classroom Discipline at Georgia State University. She also regularly trains/supervises school psychology interns.
